Prairie Forged. Built for the Rails.

Prairie Rail Solutions is looking for dependable, safety-focused individuals to join our operations team as Trackmobile Operators / Yard Maintenance Labourers.

  • Our crews support rail operations that serve agriculture, manufacturing, and industry across Manitoba. Every railcar positioned, every switch maintained, and every yard kept safe helps keep supply chains moving and businesses operating.

  • At Prairie Rail Solutions, our work is Prairie Forged, built on hard work, reliability, and pride in the job. Our mission is simple: Keeping Our Customers on Track.

  • This is a hands-on railway operations role working outdoors alongside experienced rail professionals. If you enjoy operating equipment, working around railcars, and being part of a disciplined team focused on safety and performance, this position offers an excellent opportunity to build a career in the rail industry.

  • Prairie Rail Solutions provides rail services including industrial switching, track inspections, track maintenance, railcar storage, and infrastructure support for industrial customers across southern Manitoba.

What the Work Looks Like

  • As a Trackmobile Operator / Yard Maintenance Labourer, you will work with experienced crews responsible for switching railcars, supporting yard operations, and maintaining safe rail infrastructure within industrial facilities and rail yards.

  • Typical responsibilities include operating Trackmobile units to move railcars, lining switches, coupling and uncoupling railcars, applying hand brakes, and assisting with safe railcar positioning during switching operations.

  • You will also support light rail maintenance activities including lubricating switch components, clearing snow and debris from switches and track infrastructure, and assisting crews with seasonal track maintenance tasks.

  • Additional responsibilities include assisting with yard upkeep, loading and unloading materials or equipment, maintaining safe and organized work areas, participating in safety briefings, and reporting track defects or hazards to supervisors.

Who This Role Is Built For

  • This role is well suited for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, and staying physically active. Experience in railway, construction, agriculture, trucking, or other outdoor labour environments is considered an asset but is not required.

  • Successful candidates will be dependable, safety-focused, and capable of working effectively within a small operations team.

  • Applicants must be physically capable of climbing rail equipment, lifting air hoses, operating switches, and performing manual labour while working on uneven terrain.

  • A valid driver’s licence is required. Experience operating equipment or working around rail operations is considered an asset.

  • Experience working around dangerous goods is considered an asset. Training or certification such as QSOC qualification, CROR Non-Main Track Rule 105, or Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) is highly valued.

Working Conditions

  • Railway work takes place outdoors in all weather conditions and involves physical labour in active rail environments.

  • Employees may experience exposure to heavy equipment, vibration, noise, and moving railcars.

  • Depending on operational demands, shift work, extended hours, or weekend work may occasionally be required.

  • This position may involve working around railcars carrying regulated commodities and dangerous goods. Employees must follow all applicable Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations, railway operating rules, and Prairie Rail Solutions safety procedures at all times.

What We Offer

  • Prairie Rail Solutions offers competitive wages along with on-the-job training in rail operations, switching practices, and safety procedures.

  • Employees gain valuable experience within the rail industry with opportunities to grow into roles such as rail operations, track inspection, or supervisory positions.

  • Our team environment emphasizes safety, professionalism, and pride in maintaining the infrastructure that keeps our customers on track.

If you are ready to work hard, learn new skills, and be part of a team that takes pride in supporting Manitoba’s rail infrastructure, we encourage you to apply
